The kindergarten class has been practicing counting by tens using an abacus. They also used ten sticks and ones to understand that the teen numbers are made up of a ten group, and did a daisy shaped puzzle to practice and develop number sense for the numbers 11-20.

HMB is already excited for the 2026-2027 school year to begin. With that said, there will be a few changes in staffing to support student learning across grade levels. Mrs. Held will work in both business and special education. Ms. Christensen will transition to teaching fifth-grade along with sixth-grade Science, while Mrs. Schatz will take on sixth-grade and fifth-grade Science. Additionally, Mrs. Werlinger will lead a combination classroom, working with both second and third-grade students. Finally, we are in the process of hiring new music and math teachers. These adjustments are designed to best meet the needs of our students and staff. The HMB community would like to thank Mrs. Shea, Mrs. Lien, and Mrs. Saez for all the hard work and dedication they gave to our students and school. We will truly miss you!

💛🖤 Classroom Spotlight 🖤💛
In music last week, the Pre-K and Kindergarten class practiced the song "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" and sang it fast and slow. The 1st graders got to learn the song 'Dancing in the Forest", then play a game where they have to sneak through the forest without being caught by the wolf. The 2nd graders got to work on part singing by learning a song called "Ham and Eggs". They got to crouch down when it wasn't their turn to sing and pop up when it was. They had fun seeing how fast they could sing the song, and the 3rd and 4th graders are hard at work learning new notes on the recorder.

On February 23rd, we took JH spellers to the county Spelling Bee in Linton. Of the six we brought, three made it to the oral round: Isabella, Lucy, and Abbie. Abbie earned the 2026 Spelling Bee runner-up, so she will head to Bismarck to compete at the state competition later this month. Congratulations and good luck at state Abbie!
