There are two options for ordering - online or by returning the form to school. Information for both options is on the flyer. Orders are due May 16. 💛🖤 Classroom Spotlight 🖤💛 HMB was a lucky 2nd grade class to get chosen for the ND Department of Agriculture Farm to School Edamame Trail Mix Kit! In science, we have spent the last week learning about farmers and the importance of the crops grown and how they are used. To end the unit, we made our own trail mix from a kit sent to us in the mail! The students and Mrs. Werlinger loved trying these new snacks! Some are filled with protein, some are sweet and satisfy several taste buds. One student said, “I love this! This is the best day ever.” “As a teacher, I think the best part of this project was seeing their eyes lit up when they tried something new and actually liked it. This was a wonderful opportunity to introduce a few healthier snack options. Thank you again NDDA for sponsoring this, and thank you local farmers!” #TogetherWeAchieve #TigersInAction

On April 16, HMB students from grades 7-9 toured the operations at the Coal Creek Station power plant and then traveled to Falkirk Mine, where we toured the dragline. Students learned the power plant process of creating energy from coal, from top to bottom, in the facility. At Falkirk Mine, we traveled by bus to view the many different phases of coal mining and land reclamation. Students were also able to collect samples of coal from the coal vein to bring home with them. Mrs. Larson and Mrs. Schmitcke would like to thank the students for their wonderful behavior! It was a full day of learning! #TogetherWeAchieve #TigersInAction

💛🖤 Classroom Spotlight 🖤💛 Ms. Holzer’s class was one of the few lucky recipients of the Sugar Science Kit provided by Red River Sugarbeet Growers and the North Dakota Department of Agriculture Classroom Program! Throughout the week, the 6th graders explored several hands-on experiments centered around sugar and its many properties. They learned how sugar acts as food for yeast, producing carbon dioxide gas through fermentation, which was a fun way to connect science with real-world processes, such as baking! They also investigated how sugar can be separated from different substances. This was a great way to combine chemistry, agriculture, and critical thinking! Thank you, North Dakota Ag in the Classroom, for this fun and engaging experiment! #TogetherWeAchieve #TigersInAction
