Today was a great last day of school before break. High school and elementary students teamed up to create gingerbread houses. Then we had an amazing performance by Nattie Jean and The Fringe. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with our students. They enjoyed singing and dancing!

During science class, the 6th graders have been learning about compounds, chemical formulas, and covalent bonds. For a class project, we built molecules to help us better understand atomic structure and bonding. Marshmallows represented an atom, and toothpicks were the bonds connecting them. This was a great visual to understand how atoms bond to form molecules!

The Kindergarten class spent last week learning about the first Thanksgiving. They learned that the Pilgrims boarded the ship, the Mayflower. When they landed on land, they met Native Americans, who became their friends. They enjoyed making a mural and dressing up!

The 7th-grade math class learned how to apply proportion equations in real-life situations, like food preparation. They watched videos on cooking two common Filipino dishes, Pancit( stir-fried noodles) and lumpia (spring roll). After watching the videos, they tried it and figured out whether the ingredients were used proportionally. They enjoyed discovering new dishes and liked the taste too.

5th grade has been learning about the Early Explorers who discovered America and other parts of the world. At the end of the chapter, they chose an explorer to further research and made a PowerPoint presentation about the explorer to present to the class. Then, they made a paper plate portrait showing what their explorer looked like and summarized what they learned about him. They all did an excellent job!!

Happy Thanksgiving from HMB!

3rd Grade shared their learning about the Mayflower and the pilgrims' experiences on the ship with everyone last week. They went to the gym and measured out the dimensions of the Mayflower and the area that was allowed for the 102 passengers to live in for the two-month voyage. 3rd-grade students directed passengers and provided them with a boarding pass. 102 students and staff filled the Mayflower. If passengers were over 5 ft. tall they had to crouch because the ceiling on the Mayflower was only 5 ft. high. Thank you 3rd Grade for sharing your learning with everyone!
